Hello everyone
Offshore fishing is just starting to get to the business end of the season with good numbers of Teraglin and Tailor and a few small Snapper coming in from most inshore reefs , the Redhead area has been the pick with plenty of Flathead , Morwong and Bonito thrown into the mix . There seems to be plenty of bait holding up which has attracted a number of small Black Marlin around the 30 m mark making it well worth floating a live bait under a balloon , there have even been reports of groups of Long Tail Tuna travelling through the area ..
Down south around Catherine Hill Bay there have been a few Jew and Kings off the Jetty mark once again live bait is the pick for the best results .Out around the FAD Dolphin fish numbers have remained constant with most fish over the 60 cm mark , but remember it’s a bag limit of 10 per person all over 60 cm and only one over 110 cm , be carefull as Fisheries has been checking both at sea and at the ramp .
On the Game fishing scene the April run of big Tiger sharks on the shelf has started well with local fisherman Jayden ( captain Dan ) Bruce landing a 345 kg Tiger shark on Sunday on 24 kg line while fishing on board his 5 m centre console , while Indian Summer tagged a Stripped Marlin earlier in the day . Up off Port Stephens there are a few Black Marlin off the Big Gibber while out wide it’s the Blue Marlin keeping a few interested , it once again looks like we have missed out on the run of Stripped Marlin with too much down hill current taking them down the south coast were there have been big numbers reported , lets hope a few turn up during the next couple of months ..
Off the beaches it has been unusually quiet with Tailor and Bream numbers down however this should improve as we head into the full moon during Easter , already there have been a few Salmon schools along Belmont / Blacksmiths so things are starting to take shape .. Down around Catherine Hill Bay there are a few kg plus Tailor taking lures just on daylight and reports have started of some solid Kingfish and Long Tail Tuna in the area , all looks good for the land based fisherman .
Back in the Lake its Squid , Squid ,Squid they seem to be everywhere Murrays beach once again seems to be the hot spot although I don’t think it matters where you go they are just about anywhere you go . There are still a few big Whiting on the sand flats and plenty of school size Bream , Tube worms fished on a 4-5 lb fluro-carbon leader seem to be getting the larger ones .With all these squid around the drop over and Swansea bridge will be worth a try for a kingfish or two , the run in tide is the best when targeting these fish ..
The latest Hooked show will be on Aurora at 6 .00 pm this Saturday night , Dave and I are fishing off Swansea and have a few laughs along the way , hope you enjoy it .
Regards
Jason
