Fishing Report 2-7-2014

Hello everyone

Well Winter is certainly in full swing strong cold westerly winds have kept most inside however with school holidays now on it’s a good time to get the kids out . During the past week there have been Salmon everywhere along the coast Salts Bay in particular has been jammed packed with them just yesterday Patrick and his best mate Justin Worley headed over and managed a dozen or so in short time , as usual the Casper clear /Squidgy resin combination appears to be working the best although both poppers and small metals seem to be catching a few .

Once again it’s the run in tide which is the best but it seems there are still a few fish hanging around on the run out and who could blame them waiting just out the heads there has been Seals , Dolphins and some not so friendly sharks ripping into them most of these sharks appear to be small White Pointers around the 2-3m mark , just last week a Mako shark was caught off Blacksmiths beach so if your swimming or diving in the area keep an eye out .

Back in the lake there a good numbers of Flathead coming in from down south , a lot of these fish have been in the 70 cm plus range with almost all of these fish been released thus ensuring a solid breeding stock for the future . Jumping John Frith has just returned from a extended break with plenty of reports of his many Bream conquests , just last week John managed 15 Bream up to 1.45 kg from the Bolton Point area .

John also saw a big school of Tailor busting the water up as he headed across the lake just on dark and just at the moment there appears to be some nice fish around with the biggest up to 3 kg been caught down towards Pulbar Island .

Mixed in with the Tailor there have been a few school Jew and Flathead all taken on Pulse 90 mm rubber vibes one of Patrick’s best lures in the deep water when jigging.

Early last week I saw a nice photo of a catch of Reds up to 2 kg which had come from the lake , this time of the year is one of the best times to fish for them and the bonus is you can catch them during the middle of the day , floating baits and plenty of burley will always work the best for these fish ..

Offshore has been a little difficult due to the strong winds which have made it almost impossible to get out , water temp has started to fall which should help the situation , reports of Squire and Bream along with plenty of Flathead are coming in from the inshore reefs around the Dudley / Redhead area while out wide on the Farm and down to Texas the Snapper have been in good numbers with not a lot of Jackets around it could be a good time to head out .

Regards

Jason
